Square Peg Communications Inc. (SPCI) has expanded the functionality of its Physical Layer Tester (PLT) product line through the introduction of its Inmarsat mini-M/M4 NCS/LES Emulator (M4Net).
M4Net runs on Square Peg's mini-M/M4 Physical Layer Tester (MPLT) platform. It provides a means of exercising mini-M, GAN, Fleet, and Swift64 Mobile Earth Stations (MESs) and network applications in a simulated operational environment without requiring access to a satellite or incurring airtime charges.
M4Net emulates both the Network Coordination Station (NCS) and Land Earth Station (LES) components of the M4 ground network. Multiple MESs and multiple simultaneous calls can be supported, depending upon the hardware configuration.
M4Net supports voice and ISDN data calls in both the to- and from-mobile directions, including dual-hop mobile-to-mobile calls and loop-back voice calls.
For mini-M voice calls, Voice Codec Units (VCUs) are used to provide a standard analog phone connection, allowing end-to-end voice communication with the MES handset.
For ISDN calls, an interface card installed in the MPLT provides an ISDN S/T Basic Rate Interface (BRI). The interface can operate in either Terminal Equipment (TE) or Network Termination (NT) mode. Various types of devices can be connected to the ISDN interface, such as an ISDN phone, a PC or router for end-to-end IP connectivity, or an ISDN Terminal Adaptor with an analog phone.
