Successful Flight Trial For Iris Aircraft Datalink Gateway Developed by Square Peg Communications

May 25, 2018

Inmarsat and the European Space Agency (ESA) have successfully completed the first test flight with commercial avionics for their Iris safety services program. Iris uses Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband Safety (SB-S) service to provide secure, high-bandwidth datalink communications over Europe, which will support precise flight surveillance and more efficient air traffic management. The flight trial employed Honeywell’s Aspire 400 avionics, which incorporates Square Peg's Aircraft Datalink Gateway (ADGW) to manage the terminal’s ACARS and ATN/OSI connectivity with the ground.

Square Peg also provides the tools used by SB-S terminal manufacturers to verify the performance of their SwiftBroadband User Terminals and the compliance of their datalink and safety voice implementations to applicable Inmarsat and RTCA specifications.

“The Aircraft Datalink Gateway software builds on Square Peg’s long history of providing highly reliable airborne and ground software for safety-critical datalink applications. We are continuing to expand our portfolio of SwiftBroadband Safety testing solutions, and look forward playing an important role in the deployment of the enhanced Iris safety services,” said Michael Gertsman, President of Square Peg.
